Individual Health Insurance in Seffner
Buying a plan for just yourself is easy to get wrong. We start with your doctors, your medications and your budget, then show you the plans that fit. You pay nothing for our help.
Coverage for one person, chosen the right way
Individual health insurance is a plan you buy on your own instead of getting it through an employer. It suits people who run their own business, have a gap between jobs, or work hours that come without benefits. It also makes sense when you stopped working early, or when the plan at work costs too much to join.
Most people shop by premium alone. That is where trouble starts. A cheap plan can have a deductible you will never reach, or a network that leaves out the doctor you have seen for ten years. So we find out what you actually use before we show you a single plan. Then the plan you pick is the one that works when you need it.
We sit down with clients at our office, or by phone and video. There is no fee for the consultation. The insurance carrier you end up with pays us, so our time and advice cost you nothing.
What we go over with you
Your doctors and hospitals
We check whether your current doctors and the hospitals you would use are in each plan's network. HMO, EPO and PPO plans handle this differently, and we explain the difference in plain terms.
Your medications
We look up each medication you take on every plan's drug list. We note which tier it falls in, since that sets what you pay at the pharmacy.
Real yearly cost
We add the premium to the deductible and out-of-pocket maximum. That shows you what a quiet year costs and what a bad year costs, side by side.
Help with the premium
If you qualify for a tax credit based on your income, we show how it changes your options. Our ACA Marketplace Plans page has more on how that works.
Side-by-side options
You get plans from multiple carriers laid out next to each other. Same categories, same order, so you can compare without guessing.
Enrollment
Once you choose, we walk you through the application and check it before it goes in.

Signs it is time to look at your coverage
- You are leaving a job
- Losing work coverage usually opens a special enrollment window. It does not stay open long, so it pays to look early.
- Your premium jumped
- Rates change every year. A plan that made sense last year may not be the best value now.
- Bills you did not expect
- If you paid more than you thought for a visit or a medication, your plan may not match how you use care. That is worth a closer look.
- Your doctor left the network
- Networks shift. If your doctor dropped out, you may be able to find a plan that still covers them.
- Your life changed
- Moving, marriage, a new baby or aging off a parent's plan can all change what you need. If others now need coverage too, see our Family Health Insurance page.
How a consultation goes
- 1
A short call
You call us and tell us your situation. We set up a time at our office, or by phone or video.
- 2
We ask questions first
We ask about your doctors, your medications, how often you see a doctor and what you can spend. This part takes the most time, and it matters most.
- 3
We compare plans
We pull plans from several carriers and line them up against your answers. We point out the catch in each one, if there is one.
- 4
You decide
You pick the plan, or you take time to think. There is no pressure and no fee either way.
- 5
We help you enroll
We help with the application and let you know when to expect your cards and first bill.
What sets the price of your plan
We cannot quote a premium until we know a few things about you. Prices for individual plans follow set rules, so the same plan costs the same no matter who sells it. What changes is which plan you pick and whether you qualify for help.
- Your age
- Premiums go up as you get older. This is set by the rules, not by the agent.
- Your income
- Income decides whether you get a tax credit toward your premium and how big it is. For some people it cuts the monthly cost a lot.
- Metal level and deductible
- Bronze plans cost less each month but leave more for you to pay when you use care. Gold plans are the reverse. Silver sits in the middle.
- Network type
- A narrow HMO network often costs less than a PPO with wider choice. The right one depends on which doctors you want to keep.
- Tobacco use and county
- Tobacco users can pay more, and rates depend on where you live, in Hillsborough County or elsewhere.
Questions about individual health insurance
- Do I pay more for buying through you?
- No. A plan carries the same price whether you sign up on your own or with our help. Our commission comes from the insurer, not from you. Nothing extra shows up on your bill.
- Can I buy a plan any time of year?
- Most people enroll during open enrollment each fall. Outside that window you need a qualifying event, like losing job coverage, moving or getting married. Call and we will check if you qualify.
- Will a health condition keep me from getting coverage?
- Not for ACA-compliant plans. They cannot turn you down or charge you more for a health condition. We still ask about your health so we can pick a plan that covers your care well.
- I work for myself. Is this the right kind of plan?
- Usually, yes. Most self-employed people with no staff buy individual coverage. Your income may also qualify you for help with the premium.
- Do these plans cover dental and vision?
- Adult dental and vision are often not included. We can add them separately. See our Dental Insurance and Vision Insurance pages.
- Do you work with people outside Seffner?
- Yes. We help clients in Brandon, Valrico, Plant City and nearby, at our office or by phone and video.
