Family Health Insurance in Seffner
Covering a spouse and kids on one plan has more moving parts than covering one person. We start with your doctors, your kids' needs and the medications you fill, then show you family plans that fit how you really use care.
Start With the Way Your Family Uses Care
A lot of families sort plans by monthly price and stop there. That is how a family ends up with a cheap plan their pediatrician does not take, or a deductible used up before spring. We work the other way around. First we find out what is driving your costs and worries, and only after that do we pull up plans.
Our questions are simple. Does anyone see a specialist? Which prescriptions are filled every month? Is a surgery or a new baby coming? How often do the kids end up at urgent care? Those answers tell us the plan type, network and deductible that make sense, well before we talk about price.
Meet with us at the office, over the phone or on video. There is no fee for the consultation. Our pay comes from the carrier you pick, so our review of your options is free to you.
What We Cover When We Build a Family Plan
Doctor and network check
We check your pediatrician, family doctor and any specialists against each plan's network before we recommend it. HMO, EPO and PPO plans handle networks very differently, and we explain the difference in plain words.
Medication review
We look up each regular medication on the plan's drug list and see what tier it falls in. A plan with a low premium can cost more once a monthly refill is counted.
Family deductible math
Some plans have an embedded deductible, so one sick child does not have to meet the whole family amount. Others do not. We show you how each plan works when one person has a big year.
Marketplace savings check
If you buy on the marketplace, we look at whether your family income may qualify for help with the premium. Our ACA Marketplace Plans page goes deeper on that.
Kids' dental and vision
Pediatric dental and vision are handled differently from plan to plan. If a medical plan leaves gaps, we can add Dental Insurance or Vision Insurance so you see the full picture.
Signs Your Family Plan Needs a Second Look
A new baby or adoption
Adding a child is a qualifying life event. You usually have 60 days to change or add coverage, so it is worth a call early.
You keep hitting the deductible
If your family meets the full deductible most years, a plan with a higher premium and a lower deductible may cost less over twelve months.
Your doctor left the network
Networks change every year. If your kids' doctor is suddenly out of network, a different plan may keep them with the doctor they know.
Employer coverage for the family is too costly
Rules changed in 2023 so family members may qualify for marketplace savings when adding them at work costs too much. Many families have not rechecked since.
A child turned 26 or got married
Kids can stay on a parent's plan until 26. When that ends, they need their own coverage, and our Individual Health Insurance page covers that step.
How a Family Consultation Works
- 1
A short phone call
You tell us who needs coverage, ages and any big changes coming. We set up a time at our office or by phone or video.
- 2
We find what drives your costs
We go through doctors, medications, expected visits and any planned procedures. This is where most of the real answers come from.
- 3
Plans compared in one view
You get a handful of plans from different carriers on one page, lined up so they are easy to weigh. Each one shows the premium, deductible, out-of-pocket max and network, not just the monthly price.
- 4
Enrollment and follow-up
Once you pick, we help you enroll and make sure every family member is listed correctly. If something looks off when the cards arrive, we sort it out with you.
What Moves the Price of Family Coverage
The premium is only part of what a family plan costs. The deductible, copays and out-of-pocket max matter just as much once someone gets sick. We show you all of them so the total cost is clear before you sign up.
- Ages and number of people
- Each family member is priced by age. Up to three children under 21 are counted toward the premium, so larger families may not pay more for a fourth child.
- Plan level and deductible
- Bronze plans cost less each month and more when you use care. Gold plans are the reverse. Silver can be a good fit if your income qualifies for extra cost-sharing help.
- Network type
- Plans with tighter networks usually cost less. A wider network costs more but may keep the doctors you already use.
- Tobacco use
- Carriers can charge more for tobacco users. We ask up front so the numbers you see are the numbers you pay.
- Family income
- On the marketplace, your income can lower the premium a lot. We check that before comparing anything.
Questions Families Bring Us
Something not covered here? (813) 592-4474
Can the kids go on my plan if my spouse stays off it?
Yes. Any mix of family members can share a plan. Sometimes one spouse keeps coverage from work while the children get a separate plan. We run the numbers both ways and show you which one costs less.
What time of year can we sign up?
Open enrollment on the Marketplace starts in early November and usually closes in mid-January. Any other time, you need a life change like a birth, a marriage, a move or losing other coverage. If you are unsure whether yours counts, give us a call and we will check.
Will our children keep seeing their pediatrician?
Yes, as long as that pediatrician is in the plan's network, and we check that before we suggest any plan. When a plan leaves your pediatrician out, we tell you and show you plans that keep them.
Do you charge for helping us?
No. You pay nothing for the consultation. The carrier you end up choosing pays us, so the time we spend comparing plans for your family is free to you.
What if our kids might qualify for state coverage?
Some children qualify for Florida KidCare based on family income. If that looks possible, we will tell you so you are not paying for a plan you may not need. The parents can then get a plan of their own.
